In the last decade of the 20th century, PACADAR dealt with the task of introducing precast concrete structures to heavy industry and applying the clear advantages of using it in projects of this kind:
- Nuclear power plants
- Thermal power plants
- Refineries
In these facilities, the structures that best adapt to the use of precast concrete are:
- Racks
- Cooling towers
- Electrical Substations
The technical specifications required in this type of project in relation to tolerance, implementation quality and speed in assembly can be met through the use of precast concrete to a greater degree than with traditional on-site construction.
Furthermore, in comparison with its main competitor for this type of facilities, i.e. metal structures, precast concrete offers advantages such as longer useful life, resistance to corrosion produced in the usually aggressive environments where it is installed, and higher fire resistance that reduces expenditure on the protection needed by all metal structures.
This absence of maintenance makes concrete a more cost-effective and competitive material, and therefore its performance is more efficient.
Moreover, precast concrete can be produced anywhere since the materials used, such as cement, aggregates and steel for reinforcement, are obtained locally.
